Fiona Patten, Victorian MP for the Reason Party, said she didn’t believe Mr Pell’s appeal will be successful, because she was “an optimistic person”.

Ms Patten said the Court of Appeal would need to prove the jury was unreasonable in finding Pell guilty, a marker she said would be “very difficult to prove”.

She said legal sources told her Pell would be lodging a bail application “in the lead-up to the appeal” scheduled for June 5-6.

“I’m very concerned he may be let out on bail,” she said.
