It’s time for Victoria to ditch “archaic” blasphemy laws because they favour Christian faiths, a state independent MP says.
Upper House Reason Party MP Fiona Patten will table a bill in parliament on Wednesday to abolish the laws, in line with Queensland, WA, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.
“The fundamental issue with these laws is that they give preferential treatment to Christianity over other religions and that’s just not right,” Ms Patten posted on Facebook.
