News Alert –
Leader of the Australian Sex Party and Victorian MP Fiona Patten today said she is looking forward to improving scrutiny of government spending in her new role as a member of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee.
PAEC is a joint investigatory committee of the Victorian Parliament with a function similar to Senate Estimates.
“Examining what evidence base and strategies drive Government spending will be my focus,” said Ms Patten.
“One example is crime reduction. We know intervention strategies for young offenders are critical to stopping a future life of crime. But are the right resources available? That’s just one area where I want to find out.
“I’ll be focusing on public transport, homelessness, the spending balance between drug treatment and drug enforcement, the justice system and in particular the juvenile justice system.”
Ms Patten is now a member of a record four critical committees:
· Public Accounts and Estimates Committee
· Legal and Social Issues Committee
· Electoral Matters Committee
· Law Reform, Road, and Community Safety Committee.
