Ms PATTEN (Northern Metropolitan) (12:36): (1833) My question is for Minister Carroll, and it is in relation to the safety of Nicholson Street.
There is a very active community group that has been advocating for changes to Nicholson Street up at the Coburg end, where in a 24-hour period just a few months ago there were over three collisions.
A person has died in this particular area of Nicholson Street in Coburg. They have been writing to the minister, they have been writing to the department and they have just not received anything.
Will the minister urgently provide a funding commitment to mitigate the risk of death or serious injury to the lives of people who live and travel through that locality?

Answer
The Department of Transport (DoT) advised that they have engaged with the members of the “Pedestrian Safety for Nicholson Street Coburg” community group and conducted on-site walking meetings in mid-2019 and January 2022 to discuss safety concerns along Nicholson Street from Bell Street to Albion Street.
DoT continues to work closely with other road safety partners, including Victoria Police and the City of Moreland, to explore further road improvement initiatives on Nicholson Street.
A holistic review of the speed limit along Nicholson Street-Holmes Street is being finalised, considering factors such as current land use, development in the area, pedestrian activity and different modes of transport a long this corridor. The safety of Nicholson Street in Coburg is being reviewed as part of this assessment.
I will endeavour to provide the community with an update once this work has been completed.
The Hon Ben Carroll MP
Minister for Public Transport
Minister for Roads and Road Safety
