Sustainability and evolution are the themes of Stephanie’s outfit this week, with the pre-loved materials coming from a second-hand store in High Street, Northcote seeing a new life to create this earthy ensemble. As Fatemeh recalls, ‘the fabric was telling me what it wanted to become’ – an ethos that is mirrored in her approach to fashion.
Inspiration for Fatemeh Vafaeinejad is an intertwined arrangement of conscious thought and unconscious feeling. She is thoughtful of sustainability, re-using and recycling different materials giving them a new life. Unconsciously, she is guided by what the material wants to grow into – a journey where the garment evolves.
Fatemeh approaches fashion and her art like it is a blank canvas, figuratively rather than physically. She describes going on a journey of ‘where this canvas is going to take me next’. This includes being receptive to her audiences gaze, lending to the idea that art is often better explained by the viewer.
Fatemeh is fascinated by what people say about her art, how they interpret and feel about it and what discovery they have made within this.
