Six months prior to the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre opening – January 1, 2018 – June 30, 2018-
– 269 emergency cases
– 2 non-emergency cases
– 76 patients transported
– 195 patients not transported
– 146 cases assessed as overdose
– 125 drug intoxication
First six months of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre opening – July 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018
– 242 emergency cases
– 1 non-emergency case
– 74 patients transported
– 169 patients not transported
– 135 cases assessed as overdose
– 104 assessed as drug intoxication
– 2 assessed as drug requesting detox
– 2 assessed as drug withdrawal
The data shows:
– A decrease in attendances in the six months after the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre was established, when compared to the previous six months.
– A decrease in attendances during the day (9am to 5pm) since the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre opened, and an increase in attendances outside these hours.
– A steady increase in ambulance attendances for drug-related patients in the two-and-a-half years before the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre was opened.
